Director of Planning

This position provides a unique opportunity to join an established, well-respected, and growing Land Planning, Civil Engineering, and Construction Management firm to lead the planning department with a variety and diverse range of projects.  Our teams develop solutions to policy and design challenges and focus on providing our clients with the highest quality services and technical expertise. This position will support multi-disciplinary planning projects for private and public clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide research and interpretation of jurisdictional policies and requirements for due diligence and entitlement-related projects, such as annexations, comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning applications, conditional use applications, etc.
  • Prepare written reports and data analysis for entitlement-related applications.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of planning and permitting application packages such as Comprehensive Plan Amendments, Planned Developments, and Rezonings, including managing applications through the review process and preparation of responses to staff comments.
  • Lead public outreach meetings and workshops including preparation of agendas, presentation materials, and meeting reports.
  • Interaction and communication with public and private sector clients.
  • Client representation at public hearings and meetings.
  • Public speaking before a variety of audiences.
  • Lead and mentor entry level planners.
  • Involvement and leadership role in planning and/or real estate industry professional organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field or commensurate experience
  • 5+ years of relevant planning experience in progressively responsible roles
  • Proficiency in writing staff reports
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage priorities effectively
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience in representation at public hearings
  • Proficient leader

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Planning or related field
  • AICP designation
