Urban Designer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design residential, commercial and mixed-use conceptual plans for land development projects.
  • Translate planning ideas into project solutions.
  • Coordinate with civil engineering team on project design.
  • Interact and communicate with public and private sector clients.
  • Represent clients at public hearings and meetings.
  • Mentor entry level planners in design concepts and approaches.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Planning or commensurate experience
  • 3-5+ years of design experience in progressively responsible roles
  • Hand graphics and rendering skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite required
  • Proficiency with CAD Civil 3D
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Ability to self-edit and effectively communicate design ideas and concepts
  • Detail oriented and able to closely follow instructions and direction
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage priorities effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Planning
  • AIA, ASLA, or AICP designation
  • Above average skills using ArcGIS and/or Autodesk products
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment with a sense of urgency
  • A consultative, service oriented mindset and collaborative problem-solving skills
  • Project experience with current planning concepts (i.e. Form Based Code, Transit Oriented Design, Smart Growth, etc.)
