VIEW THE PROJECT
Orlando based civil engineering firm Poulos & Bennett LLC, as part of a multi- disciplinary team, was awarded first place in a national canal design competition today in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish Drainage Canal Design Competition involved a 2.4 mile segment of the West Esplanade drainage canal in Jefferson Parish, just outside of New Orleans. The challenge presented by the Parish was to transform an existing utilitarian canal segment into a usable, viable space while not impeding the canal’s primary function of providing flood control.

“We are honored by the recognition and excited to be part of a collaborative solution to enhance the community through a redevelopment effort that is both functional and an aesthetic asset to the community. Just as important, the design includes implementation steps to assist the Parish in realizing their goals” said Poulos & Bennett partner, Jamie Poulos.

The team also consisted of Cadence, a planning and landscape architecture firm based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Studio Snyder, a marketing and branding firm based in Washington, DC. The solution presented by the winning team emphasized coordination and collaboration between the Parish, community residents, organizations and local businesses.

Along with the first place recognition, the team was awarded a $30,000.00 dollar monetary prize provided by Jefferson Parish community associations, professional societies and the Regional Planning Council.

The team also provided project cost estimates and identified potential funding sources and outreach strategies to assist the Parish in moving forward with the design.
